1:1 Psychotherapy

Through psychotherapy, counselling and CBT we support individuals and couples who are going through challenges such as anxiety, grief, depression, inability to cope with daily life, relationship issues, bereavement and bereavement by suicide. We support our clients irrespective of gender, sexual orientation, religion or ethnic origin.

About Psychotherapy

  • Psychotherapy (often referred to simply as ‘therapy’) provides a safe and confidential space for you to talk to a qualified professional about your issues and concerns without any judgement.

Your therapist will help you explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours so you can develop a better understanding of yourself and others. They will help you find your own solutions - this may include making some changes in your life, or finding different ways of coping with your problems. Your therapist will not give you their opinions or advice or prescribe medication.

Therapy appointments last for 50 minutes and normally take place on the same day at the same time each week.

  • A Therapist can support with many challenges that impact our ability to cope, including:

    • Anxiety

    • Depression

    • Bereavement

    • Suicidal thoughts

    • Struggling to cope with day to day life

    • Relationship breakdown or divorce

    • Childhood trauma

    • Grief

    • Panic attacks

    • Anger management

    • Complex identity challenges

  • Our adult Therapy & Counselling service at Wilfrid’s House incurs a meaningful cost to us for each session and we are committed to being able to continue to offer affordable support, so we ask for a donation of £35 per session. If you can donate more, you will be able to indicate this when you fill in your application form. If you are not able to make this donation of £35, please let us know as we endeavour to remain accessible to as many people as possible.

If you have been referred to us through a partner organisation such as Imperial College then your sessions will be funded according to our partnership agreement.

  • "I write this with not only a heavy heart but a heart with love and hope and acceptance of a different reality. A reality without one of our precious boys. My husband and I have begun work on our shared and individual grief with counsellors from [Wilfrid’s House] after the drowning of our son. With their gentle encouragement and understanding, these trained counsellors have walked us through the precarious unknown “space of loss” with loving hands and understanding, and guided us through this void into a new acceptance. We are most grateful for the work of these dedicated counsellors."

  • “I felt very lost a few years ago and knew that my problems were too much for my friends. I needed proper support but I didn’t know where to start until I stumbled upon [Wilfrid’s House]. I’ve since dug deep, done a lot of thinking and learnt so much about myself - it’s been an amazing process and ultimately, it’s enabled me to turn my life around.”
