Why Volunteer For Wilfrid’s House?

  • Personal & Professional Development

Whether you are looking to elevate your training or qualifications or simply to contribute to today’s society through this important work, the community at Wilfrid’s House is committed to supporting the personal and professional development of everybody within it.

  • Group Supervision

We run regular, small supervision groups which allow our volunteers the opportunity to discuss challenges and share thoughts and ideas. Regular supervision is considered best practice for all talking therapists and helps ensure the wellbeing of both our clients and volunteers. Supervision is completely confidential.

  • CPDs & Workshops

We run a rich and varied programme of CPDs to provide our volunteers with further learning and our clients with enhanced support. Recent CPDs include “Working with Eating Disorders”, “Working With Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse” and “Working With Trauma In the Therapy Room”.

  • Flexibility

All of our volunteers are able to work according to their own schedule and in the comfort of their own home. We ask for a minimum time commitment, but we aim to be as flexible as possible to accommodate our volunteers’ domestic commitments, alternative employment and personal preferences.

  • "Deciding to seek therapy should be your own decision. It starts with admitting that you cannot, and, most importantly, you don’t have to face your issues alone. So, in a moment of difficulty or even despair, the first step is to realise that there is help and that it is okay to ask for it. Secondly, do not take the decision based on the “gravity” of the issue. Whether you’re having work-related frustrations or going through a bereavement, every problem is worth talking about and should not be downplayed because “others have it more difficult than you,” or “It’s not polite to talk about yourself."
